The release of yet another CUV onto the market may not be a surprise to some, but from a brand like Dodge, the result should include power and performance. Now we have what is being touted as the most powerful compact utility vehicle, the new Dodge Hornet. The R/T performance version is a hybrid, being the first from the company to use electrification as part of the powertrain.

In terms of power, the 2L turbocharged, four-cylinder Hurricane4 engine can produce 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, with a 0 to 60 mph time of 5.6 seconds. The electric side of things can add 30 miles of range from its 15.5-kWh lithium battery. If you want to push the upgrades even further, the Hornet will be part of Dodge’s Direct Connection program, which will become part of the brand’s performance side of things moving forward.

The Dodge Hornet also includes all the interior amenities we have come to expect with this type of vehicle. Depending on the model and package, there is a touchscreen infotainment system, high-end sound system, and plush front seat heating. The cargo space is also ample for an average-sized family, along the lines of a smaller SUV.

In terms of pricing, the base model should come in at around $30,000 with the GT AWD four-door version at $34,000, the GT Plus model at $35,000, and the full-bore Hornet R/T hybrid at $53,000.

As per the Dodge way of doing things, there are plenty of options in the lineup for most pockets. Obviously, if you can push to the R/T version, this will provide you with the most fun for your money. But if you’re just in the market for a fun and stylish CUV, the Dodge Hornet may just fit the bill.
