Kia is about to launch its most significant and most advanced electric car yet, the EV9. Set to revolutionize Kia’s image, this seven-seater SUV has plenty of room and a lengthy estimated range of 337 miles. With an anticipated price tag in the mid £80,000/$100k, this vehicle is set to be a major contender in the EV market.

The EV9 is part of Kia’s ambitious Plan S strategy. This plan consists of the release of 13 bespoke EVs by 2027 and is supported by widespread dealership upgrades and expansion into new markets. As a result, the EV9 is expected to help shape people’s opinions of the brand moving forwards.

Karim Habib, Kia’s ex-BMW stylist, designed the EV9 and served as the inspiration for the manufacturer’s upcoming looks. All future models will have obvious links to the original vision for the EV9, with a unique take on the interior and exterior features. The only details we are waiting for before launch are the performance specs.

However, speculations suggest that the EV9 will be competing in the same league as the BMW iX M60 and Mercedes-AMG EQS in terms of power, potentially reaching up to 577bhp. It can be rapidly charged up to 350kW and come with the capability to vehicle-to-load reverse charge.

Interior

The interior of the Kia EV9 has been carefully crafted for comfort as well as style. The cabin offers room for seven adults and a large cargo area, plus additional storage space in the center console and door pockets. All seating positions have heated and ventilated functions, while rear passengers can enjoy independent climate controls and the optional swivel feature.

The entertainment options on the Kia EV9 are plentiful and modern. The panels across the dashboard include twin 12.3-inch infotainment screens and a 5-inch display, plus vehicle information and settings. The setup also includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging capabilities. The plush interior up to now looks very futuristic, yet minimal, along the lines of what we would expect from the likes of Tesla.

Tech

The Kia EV9 also comes with a suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies to help the driver. This includes lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking. On top of this, the SUV can be equipped with an extra driver-assist package which includes automatic lane centering and semi-autonomous highway driving.

Along with its various tech features, the Kia EV9 also includes a host of safety technologies. Seven airbags and crumple zones are built into the SUV’s design, and drivers can opt for an extra layer of protection with the optional active safety package. All of these features are designed to keep passengers safe in the event of an accident.

The range could exceed 337 miles, matching the competition from other three row EV SUVs like the Tesla Model X, the 2023 Mercedes Benz EQS, and the 2023 Rivian R1S. The EV9’s impressive range comes from its advanced battery technology. It is powered by Kia’s next-generation battery system developed in collaboration with LG Chem and the Hyundai Motor Group. Furthermore, Kia has incorporated regenerative braking into the system so that the car can recapture some of its lost energy.

As well as its impressive range, the EV9 offers some neat design features. An optional swivel function on the rear seats is available to increase interior space and the expansive digital display across the dashboard makes this luxurious SUV stand out from the crowd. It also has off-roader cues and its swept-back rear pillar, a signature feature to be found in other upcoming models from the brand.

Exterior

The exterior design of the Kia EV9 is striking and eye-catching. Its long wheelbase gives it a modern stance, while the swept-back roofline and signature rear pillar provide a utilitarian feel. The sleek lines and bold curves combine to create a unique look that will no doubt draw attention when the car hits the road.

Pricing

In terms of pricing, the Kia EV9 is expected to sit somewhere in the middle of the range. The estimated cost is likely to be around £84,000/$100k, which seems like a fair price for all of the features it offers. The EV9 will give consumers a viable alternative to larger EVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS or the Audi e-tron GT at this price point.

Overall, Kia’s upcoming EV9 is set to be a major contender in the electric vehicle market. Its range, design, safety, and tech features make it a top contender in its class, and the fact that it is expected to launch later this year means that consumers won’t have to wait long to experience its luxury. As Kia continues to innovate and improve its vehicles, the EV9 is sure to be the first of many exciting EVs from the company.

We can expect the Kia EV9’s arrival in late 2023.
