Top Ten 2016 Compact Crossover SUV Review.

As the SUV and minivan market hots up, the subtle differences between each make and model can become evermore difficult.

The Examiner have put together a fantastic running order of all subtle differences between the makes and models in a ranking order.
Once you start to whittle down what people look for in each SUV category, the highest rating factors don’t always apply.
Maximum cargo space isn’t the top priority in the ‘driving enthusiasts’ category, while luxury SUV buyers, prioritise different criteria.

Below are the winners in each of the categories.

Practical family SUVs.
Small crossovers which focus on space, comfort and safety, used regularly, which have good fuel efficiency and value.
1. 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium: A.
The Forrester tops the charts of the best in safety, value and an everyday workhorse. It doesn’t have any real luxuries of its top end counterparts, but is an overall great buy.

Best commuter SUV.
1. 2016 Nissan Rogue SV: A
Just like the Subaru Forester, the Nissan Rogue SV has an okay engine, plenty of internal room, is comfortable and is a great all-round commuting vehicle.

Affordable luxury SUV.
For someone who wants a more luxurious SUV, but doesn’t want to pay top and pricing. You will get upgraded trim and refinement here, but not as good value or interior space as previous examples.
1. 2016 Honda CR-V EX: A-
Although not as luxurious as its higher end counterparts, it does the best in this section, with a well rounded package.

Driving enthusiast’s SUV.
For those who prioritise the driving experience, but still want space, value and safety.
1. 2016 Mazda CX-5 Touring: A.
The Mazda comes out on top in this area for acceleration, steering and handling, although its competitors may arguably have more interior space and better trim.

Bargain hunter’s SUV.
Simply, for those who want the most for their money, without much sacrifice.
1. 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium: A.
The Subaru Forester comes in again with a well built, safety and fuel economy score. It’s not the cheapest around, but probably the best all-rounder in this category.

Price is no object SUV.
This excludes the cost of buying and fuelling a vehicle, short listing the best compact crossover.
1. 2016 Honda CR-V EX: B+.
Although the CR-V is marked down in great ride quality and audio controls, it has the best overall scores for interior space, comfort and a well rounded vehicle.


This makes the overall winner the 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium,which stands out for being a well rounded SUV at a great price.
