Big Foot: The Original Monster Truck.

By  |

‘Monster trucks by design are intended to fly…’

Modifying trucks to be bigger and more powerful than the rest started to take off in the 70’s. Trucks such as Bob Chandler’s Bigfoot, Everett Jasmer’s USA-1, Fred Shafer and Jack Willman Sr.’s Bear Foot, and Jeff Dane’s King Kong, all competed to be the biggest trucks around.

Car crushing with monster trucks has been the most popular pastime of these vehicles, but the most impressive features are how these vehicles were built.
They began with stock bodies and leaf springs and as the sport progressed, more advanced vehicles were built like Chandlers 1989 Bigfoot VIII which have a full tubular chassis and nitrogen shock absorbers.

Today’s monster trucks more customised vehicles, more like scaled June bodies, with huge custom engines.
Axles and suspension are taken from larger vehicles such as military trucks to handle the regular abuse.

Check out the videos below to see why these vehicles became so popular.
