2016 GMC Terrain Exposed on the New York auto show
GM’s GMC Division exposed its 2016 Terrain and Terrain Denali today on the night of the New York auto show.

The new compact SUVs have updated front and rear fascias and grilles, a power dome hood and light-emitting diode daytime running lamps. Side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert are offered for the first time on SLE and SLT models.

Historically, the Terrain, introduced in 2009, is GMC’s second-best seller after the Sierra pickup truck. Terrain sales were up 5.5 percent in 2014 to 105,016 — its best year ever — and so far this year, it’s on pace to beat that.

The 2016 model enters a compact-SUV market up 17.4 percent in 2014. Compact utes now account for 15.7 percent of the U.S. market, overtaking midsize cars for the first time as the largest vehicle segment.

The 2016 Terrain goes on sale this fall. Pricing will be announced later.
